Presentations:
In order to earn the credit points, you will have to give a short presentation which consists of a retrosynthetic approach towards molecules which were recently isolated from natural sources and have not yet been synthesized. The presentation should also include a suggested forward approach to show, how you plan to connect the precursors. It is not mandatory to create the correct stereochemical information, however, you may try to achieve this even more challenging goal as well.
The molecules for the presentation will be handed out on Tuesday 25.09.07. (First come first serve). The presentations will usually take place on Tuesday morning and should be approximately 20 minutes (including discussion, i.e. 2 molecules per week). The easier molecules will be presented in the first weeks, the more difficult ones in the final weeks of the semester. Your presentations will start on October 9. All presentations will be done in groups of two.
Please have your presentation ready one week before you are officially scheduled to give it (so that you can give the presentation if another of the persons scheduled for this day can not make it, e.g. due to illness). In order to avoid obvious mistakes, each presentation will be shown to the assigned lecture assistant prior to the oral presentation (please arrange a time with the according assistant at least 24 h in advance). The lecture assistants are Sascha Jautze (SJ), Daniel Fischer (DF) (both D102), Thomas Kull (TK), Paolo Tiseni (PT) (both E110).
Schedule for the presentations (updated 11.10.07)
(may change)
Presentations (no changes in the presentations were made after the talks, hence they contain the mistakes made by the students)
16.10.07-1-retrosynthesis/synthesis
Exercises:
Exercise 1 solution
Exercise 2 (due to 10.10.07)
Credit points for Ph.D.-students:
Ph.D. students, in contrast, will not have to give a presentation, but they will have to hand in 9 out of 12 exercises to receive their credit points
For diploma students, it is not mandatory, but strongly recommended, to hand in exercises and attend the course.
